Doctor Strange #55 a classic by Roger Stern and Michael Golden
When Steve Ditko and Stan Lee created Doctor Strange they knocked it out of the park, so much so that it was really hard for future creators to come close to the awesomeness of it. Then Roger Stern and Michael Golden came along and brought it up a notch. Doctor Strange #55, Oct 1982, is not only one of the best Doctor Strange stories I've ever read, it's one of the best comics I've ever read.

Steve Ditko's strange world of Doctor Strange
Steve Ditko has achieved legendary status in the world of comics with his co-creation of Spider-Man with writer/editor Stan Lee but, in my opinion his greatest work was not the web slinger but rather Ditko/Lee's other less famous character Doctor Strange.
Ditko's plash page from Strange Tales #132, May 1964 conveys a striking sense of design. |

Dash Shaw's Doctor Strange vs. Nightmare
Strange Tales (2009) was one of the most exciting things to
come out in the last decade because of all of the amazingly diverse and
original alternative creators doing their versions of the standard Marvel pantheon
of heroes. And of all the great work presented in this anthology Dash Shaw did
one of the most exciting stories of the bunch.

Hey! A Jim Steranko effect! The hallucinatory effect on comics!
"Hey! A Jim Steranko effect!" Neal Adams formed the words using the mist lines radiating from the pit in his Deadman series.
I'm not sure what Adams was referring to because I don't remember Steranko ever spelling things out using visual effects, but he did do some pretty crazy/cool stuff in his day!
