Mike Mignola's Swamp Thing Annual pages

In the late 80's Mike Mignola transformed his art to a stunning degree. He went from a work horse struggling to put out monthly books to a premier artist that garnered the prestige format that had become so popular at the time. He was creating breath taking work with strong contrasts and stunning compositions.

Here is presented a long lost back-up feature from Swamp Thing annual #5 (1989) which may be the only collaboration between Mike Mignola and Neil Gaiman done before either of them were really as famous as they would later become.

We can see from this comic that Mike was in his full powers as early as 1989, four years before his most famous creation, Hellboy.
For those of you who are wondering what Mike Mignola's Swamp Thing would look like he is a rare pin-up he did that was published in Swamp Thing #137, Nov 1993.

  1. I owned page 9 back in the day. I bought it directly from Mike. In the mid 1990's I was teaching comic book art and one of my students stole this page so if it ever turns up, it's stolen art.
